Beef Stew

A mouth-watering tasty one that can be used whether camping or at home


  • 500gm blade diced
  • 1 large tbsp plain flour
  • Salt/pepper
  • Oil
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic thinly sliced
  • 100gm bacon diced
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 2 bay leaves


  1. Toss beef in seasoned flour
  2. Heat oil in a large saucepan over high heat
  3. Cook beef, in batches, stirring until browned. Transfer to a plate
  4. Reduce heat, add oil, onion, garlic, bacon, stirring often for 5 minutes
  5. Return beef to pan with red wine reduce 1 minute then add beef stock, rosemary and bay leaves
  6. Bring to the boil
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer, cover and cook for 1 hour
  8. Uncover and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until beef is tender

Serve with mashed potato and vegetables of your choice.
